Introduction

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where rust and moth consume and thieves break through and steal.

—Jesus of Nazareth

Thieves have plundered the chattels of man since his early beginnings, but rarely with impunity or risk to life or limb.

In the modern world, thievery (sub rosa) has become the norm—aided and abetted by time, sophistication, and deceit. Not only chattels, but homes, farms, and factories are surreptitiously accumulated by a "thief" that plies its craft unrecognized and unsuspected by its victims.

How can people defend themselves against an enemy they do not know, cannot see, and do not comprehend? How, indeed, are they kept in ignorance when the wrong is so obvious?

Inflation has been defined by many and capable economists, exposed for what it is—lawful theft. By concentrating money in the wrong places, it has provided incentive for every evil that confronts our society.

This little book is addressed in particular to teachers, ministers, priests, and rabbis to whom we logically turn for moral guidance. It contains nothing new, only simple facts about money that every literate American should know and understand, but for obvious reasons does not.

Herein is a concise summary of the rudiments of our monetary system. The reader is implored to read it thoughtfully, to ponder the consequences that counterfeit money (legalized for a privileged minority) must necessarily impose on the morals and methods of a nation, not to mention the pollution of its total environment.
